In early 2010 Olof Dreijer and Matthew Sims were commissioned by Everard Findlay of SFOTE, from Trinidad/New York to make a piece for Steel Drums that would be performed in New York and Trinidad as a part of a fundraising event for a school bus system in Trinidad. During the process of researching the history of the Steel drum and Trinidad/Tobago, Olof and Matt were asked by curator Adnan Yildiz to make a piece for an exhibition on criticality at the Nordic Embassy in Berlin. Rather than trying make a mix that could be representative in terms of musical references for the opera which is rather tricky as the main reference is Darwin texts, we chose to give a Darwin like variation on different vocal expression and styles.
